Live Bottle Engraving for Johnnie Walker: Holiday Gifting That Brings Guests In Store
A bottle of whisky is already a generous gift. A name, a date, or a short message engraved by hand makes it one that is kept long after it is finished.
Over the holidays I partnered with Johnnie Walker to offer complimentary live engraving with purchase at select liquor stores in Calgary. Guests chose their bottle, shared who it was for, and watched it become personal in a few minutes.
The Guests Who Came for the Engraving
What stood out was how many guests arrived specifically for the engraving. These were true enthusiasts who had marked the date and planned their purchase around it. For a brand, that is the strongest sign an activation is working: it is no longer an add-on, it is the reason for the visit.
One guest brought an empty bottle of Blue Label that belonged to his grandpa which was purchased in the 90s. There was nothing left to pour, yet it held a great deal of meaning for him, and engraving it was one of my favourite moments of the season.
